Adding new ROM disables sound and messes up framerate
-
Hi,
I have a raspberry pi 3 with retropie 4.14.29-v7+/emulationstation/retroarch/.
All was fine until I added a rom in to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro and when I reboot there is no sound in any games and the frame rates are wrong (too fast) . I still get sound in Emulationstation. When the game is loaded it says "configuration override loaded" in yellow at the bottom which it didn't do before.
Thanks for any help in advance!

So the ROM itself isn't doing it...necessarily. The CONFIG is doing it. I was going to suggest it might be a BIOS for the ROM, but it's a CONFIG for the ROM. Which ROM?
Can you move the ROM to the Arcade folder and get the same results?

This message appears when you specifically added a game/core override yourself, did you do that yourself or the message just suddenly appeared afterwards ?

Copying one ROM will not break existing configurations. Are you using an official image or a 3rd party image ? Add more details about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

@IanDaemon Sorry for my slow reply. I thought I had set my notifications on to email me when I got a reply but that didn't work :-(
The ROM is phoenix.zip (Phoenix Amstar).
If I put this in:
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade
it loads ok from the "Arcade Classics" menu but there is no sound. Also I can't get the joystick to work and I can't configure then using the TAB key menu 'Input (this game)' option. It just seems to ignore any of the joystick/switch/keyboard presses when I try and change the defaults. Default keys seem to work.
When I load the "MAME" menu again, there is no sound on the games and frame rate is messed up.
Thanks.

That's what I also thought. Are you using an official image or a 3rd party image ? Add more details about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
Not sure how I can get these details. It's an arcade cabinet I bought from a third party and the image is what it came with. I can try and find out please you can you advise?
Thanks!

That's a definite No.

@Thorr69 So perhaps I should just install a default retropie then and see if that helps. It's not much good if I can't add roms :-(
-
@bbloke You can add ROMs to a RetroPie installation, otherwise what would be the point of a retro-gaming system that cannot play games ?
-
@mitu Yes I know :-) I have had a basic Windows Mame install for ages and it all worked fine and could add games etc
I don't get why this screws up. After some digging I found the image I have is
deleted
.The blurb says:
"Before the Pi4 takes over the Retropie scene, I decided to make one final 32 gb image. “The King” of all 32gb images. This image is packed with various retro console collections and the biggest selection of CD based games (over 40) on a 32gb image. Image also includes hacks, homebrews and even OpenBOR (which you will need a keyboard plugged in to set-up controller inputs). Image is compatible with the Raspberry Pi3b and 3b+. The image also uses a custom version of “Infinity ” ES theme made by Ben Maes, which has been customized and tweaked by Coin Junkie All roms have been verified working, bezels have been added and all roms have been scrapped. NOTE…. This image is for those looking for a solid plug and play solution to Retropie. The Retropie script cannot be updated. It’s running an old version of Retropie 4.4, which has not been updated since October 2018. Which also means there are none of the newer scripts with bells and whistles added. Certain features like updating had to be sacrificed in order to get OpenBOR to work. This image is a great send off to the Pi3. – DAMASO"
Maybe it's so locked down you can't add anything to it? Any thoughts?

Delete that link ASAP. It is completely against the forum rules to post a link to a source containing ROMS.
And please stop asking for advice and support about a 3rd party image.

@bbloke I removed the link to the image - per the forum rules, there's no links to ROMs or copyrighted material.
