I have a Raspberry Pi Zero W. My RetroPie version is 4.53. And is running Raspbian 9.11 (stretch).
Like the title says, it doesn't detect the controller. I plug in the PS3 controller to the (micro) USB port, using a converter (micro to full sized USB) before booting. And when I get into RetroPie, I press the start button to get the menu, and then select the "Configure Input" dialog. And then it says that the "Gamepad" is detected. But, when I press a button on the controller, it does absolutely nothing. Pressing the "PS" button gives the same results. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

      Thanks.

@ignatius did you read the instructions on setting up a PS3 controller? https://retropie.org.uk/docs/PS3-Controller/

        Choosing a driver etc.

Ok. I followed the instructions. I plugged in the PS3 controller during the Emulation Station startup screen.
No luck. :( Is there a specific time when i'm supposed to plug the controller in?
