@sssetz basically what @mitu is saying is as the emulator improves, it’s also discovered that the older rom dumps are not that good. MAME, as a project, will no longer support an older version of a dump. Unlike NES or SNES etc, if a dump is bad, the emulator will attempt to play regardless. Their may be no issue running a bad dump. It may not even effect the emulation at all. It’s just just a byte for byte dump of the rom. But MAME needs the correct rom version to run.

@lostless Appreciate the input from you and @mitu but I'm still not sure why it wont load in the end. I'll keep tweaking it and see what I can get but I'm getting to the end of my options....as I've scoured every forum for GTFore and cant seem to distinguish why I cant get it to run. Ive gotten other CHDs to run, and even though they are slow I can get them to atleast boot and run.

Even if GTFore doesnt run great, I'd still love to diagnose why its not actually booting. You mentione "it will no longer support an old version of a dump. But SNES/NES does..." Does that mean its an emulator issue or a rom issue with a older version of a dump...

Check your error message it's saying this rom has not been found "ROM_LOAD( "g4c-us-u.u53", 0x0000, 0x0880, NO_DUMP )" it should be inside gtfore06.zip

@sssetz what about older versions of gtfore! like 2002 (gtfore02.zip) and 2003 (gtfore03.zip). They all use the same bios file, just need the diff rom/chd.

I have tried those and all give the same result unfortunately...

Thanks for this in depth response, but are you saying I should just try to use the gtfore01.zip and gtfore01 CHD files and see if that will work? Or somehow rename them for use with the gtfore06 CHD? Or are you saying look for different CHD files? As far as I can tell rom zip files are basically empty directory folders for games like GTFore, is that right?

Ive tried gtfore01 and gtfore02 (with their respective CHDs in a folder named after the rom) and they wont work either.....

@sssetz you need to make sure you have the right rom and chd version for the version of MAME you are using. Trying to mix and match from any roms randomly found on the internet will lead to frustration.

@sssetz I was saying just try another version of the game you dont need to mix and match anything, but from what your saying you've done that already.

Maybe it's your setup that's causing the issue a video or sound setting in your frontend.?? as i just googled golden tee fore Rpi and it seems plenty of
users have this game up and running.

Just an update about a week out of talking on this thread, no luck. But I was able to find someone who had a confirmed CHD/iteagle file that is working for their RPi/Retropie and still no luck for myself, so not really sure. Maybe the iteagle needs to have some certain setup I am missing, cause I definitely have got other CHD games to work.....regardless thx for everyones help.

@sssetz Thanks for the updates! Any luck since? Also, you said in your last post someone confirming they had it working for their RPi. What version? 4 I assuming?
