@benjaminjay I just did it in RGUI, not by editing anything, although you could probaby also do that. I don't know the file for that, though.

Default for RGUI for me was 'select+X'. I then went into 'hotkey binds' and changed X to F1: In Retroarch RGUI 'Quick menu', back out to 'Main menu', then go to Settings -> Input -> Hotkey binds -> Menu toggle

@mitu said in accessing RGUI with keyboard:

F1 is the default keyboard button that brings up the RetroArch's menu. It should work whether a hotkey is enabled or not.

It doesn't on mine, but it is entirely possible that I messed with that setting when I first got my cab, and well before I knew what I was even doing in Retroarch...

@mitu I still have not resolved this. I managed to set "alt" as my hotkey in MAME to open RGUI with "alt"+"esc", saved the configuration, but this does not carry over to any other emulators. Is there a config file somewhere I can manually edit to get access to RGUI in all of the other emulators? I'm comfortable using the console and/or SSH to access the necessary file(s).

@benjaminjay If you used 'Save Configuration', this will set the options only for the current MAME core, not for all libretro cores. You should start RetroArch from the RetroPie system in EmulationStation and the options you set there (and save) will apply to all RetroArch based emulators.

@mitu I don't know if that is a standard option available in EmulationStation, but if it is I must have removed it. This is a "kiosk" type build.

@mitu could I simply start up a game from EmulationStation, open RGUI then close the game but leave RetroArch running and make the changes ?

No, because it would still save the configuration only for that particular system where the core was running.
