      Hi all,
I would to run a totla retropie update for my distro but I would avoid to loose all core configuration. Last time I updated my distro, all core configurations were lost. I have a lot of game with a custom button configuration and I would like to keep them.
Is there a way to update system without loosing that data?
      Thanks for help.

@davidgrohl when you say you want to update your 'distro' what do you mean? we don't support updating raspbian distro releases - in our experience it causes issues.

if you want to update retropie, this is how: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Updating-RetroPie. it shouldn't delete any core configurations, etc.

note the instructions on how to make a backup.

Sorry, my english is not so clear. I intend update retropie.
I did that steps when I updated retropie and after raspberry rebbot, I lost all may core configuration. Could it depend by retroarch update?

RetroArch has undergone a revamp of the input sub-system a while back - in version 1.7.2 released in April 2018. If your previous RetroArch version was older, before the update, then your remaps would have to be re-done.

Ok, I think it was older. Now I have 1.7.6: do you think I can update keeping my old settings?

@davidgrohl As far as I know, the current version should be compatible with 1.7.6, it's not a breakning change. However, as @dankcushions said, if your installation is too old and it's based on a previous Raspbian release, your best option is to install a new version. As always, backup your installation before making major changes/upgrades.
