The documentation only references Reicast but flycast doesn't store the data in /home/pi/.reicast/

~/RetroPie/BIOS/dc/ is where my flycast VMUs get saved to.

        For reicast, they're under ~/.reicast/

        For redream, they're under /opt/retropie/emulators/redream/

You create/initialize them in the BIOS screen after selecting +START REICAST from the games list in ES. I don't think they get created automatically when you launch a game in either reicast or flycast.

I think the documentation only references reicast because flycast is still an experimental package only. But also, flycast is just a fork of reicast, as I understand.

Edited: My original post was wrong about the location for flycast vmus.. sorry.

Flycast is definitely saving my progress, and they're not in ~/.reicast. I specifically did not install reicast because I prefer libretro cores. Flycast is definitely storing the save data somewhere else I just can't find it.

Do you have per game vmu's turned on? If so then they are stored with the roms.

They're not being stored with the games, so I have to assume I don't have that turned on. I'll dig in to the settings some more.

@corezon Not sure if you're still looking into this, but flycast vmus are stored under ~/RetroPie/BIOS/dc/. The documentation is a little fuzzy on this point, but it does talk about it:
