So I've never played any of the Pokemon games and figured I should give it a go. Decided I would start with Pokemon Yellow Pikachu Edition (as from what I could find it is more or less Red & Blue combined) and I can't seem to use save states with this particular game. I get the Save State 0% on-screen message but it never goes beyond that. Other ROMs I have work just fine with this. Normally I wouldn't be too concerned with this feature but as I plan on playing on my GPi case for it's portability I would prefer to be able to save at any time.

Is this an issue with my ROM perhaps? Should I try a different copy of the game?

Pi Model or other hardware: ZeroW
Power Supply used: Retroflag GPi Case connected to powerbank 2.4a output
      RetroPie Version: 4.5.3
Built From: image from retropie website
      Controller used: GPi case
File: Pokemon - yellow version - pikachu edition (usa, europe).gb
      Emulator: lr-mgba & lr-gambette

Also: on both emulators there is actually color, is that normal?

I don't think so, looks more like a problem saving than a ROM issue. Are other games (GB or whatnot) having this problem also ? Do you have enough space on your SD card ?

Yes, the original cartridge worked on both the original GB and the GB Color, I guess the emulator launches it as a GBC game.

In MGBA, you can force the emulated system to Game Boy (original) and you'll get the monocolored version:

@mitu I had a feeling that the game was designed to work for both GB and GBC.

As for space the card has about 20gb unused so I know that's not the issue.

I've tried other GB games and had no problems. And before and after I made the post last night I tried a few random systems and then random ROMs and nothing else was doing that.

EDIT: I just tried it on my 3B+ build and it saves just fine. Same ROM file but not the same retropie or emulator version for sure.

EDIT TAKE 2: Just to be thorough I decided I would look to see if a state file was created for the game and what would happen if I delete it. So I did and now it's working. Could I have some corruption within the card itself?

Could be, though I think it's more likely a corrupt saved state (software issue).

@mitu so most likely it was trying to save one and something errored and then it just wasn't able to save over the bad file?
