There's no official image released with Pi4 support. You can do a manual installation as explained in the Docs over an existing Raspbian Buster Lite image. Work for PI4 is still ongoing, and although most things should work fine, there are a few glitches now and then.

Hi and thanks for this answer! I have seen a few YouTube tutorials how to make RetroPie run on a Pi4. After having tried one, I realized that I have massive delay problems - even in the menu of EmulationStation. Is there a doc describing how to install RetroPie manually on a Pi4 as long the premodified images comes? Or can I use the one mitu linked above? Where are the problems with Pi4, what do I have to expect when trying? Alternatively I have place an Amazon order and buy me a Pi3B+ ;-)

              Best regards,

              Rufus

Where ? I'm only aware of EmulationStation running at half speed in certain cases, only before start.

Is there a doc describing how to install RetroPie manually on a Pi4

The doc that I linked in my first reply.

@RufusGrey I haven't had any major issues with the weekly dev builds. Try those and don't take advice from ignorant youtubers.

Many thanks again for your help! This doc you linked is awesome! Very easy to do and it left me with no problems workin on a Raspberry Pi 4. I wonder why there are so many complicated tutorials out there...

I neither am a linux specialist nor do I feel really comfortable with the Terminal but this was easy to do. With the Samba shares (explained in the doc as well) it is even comfortable to copy the ROM files into the correct folders from your Windows PC.

What I did wrong before? Well, I followed a real complicated YouTube tutorial and used EmulationStation and the Pixel-Desktop of Raspian at the same time. As it says in the document above, this won't work.

So my advice to all the beginners at RetroPie with a Raspberry Pi 4: Do it as explained here and have fun with this beautiful system!

                      Best regards,

                      Rufus

Ok, half a day later, I realize one (perhaps small) problem concerning the Pi4 project. As I am going to build two Arcade Machines together with a friend of mine, I had to setup RetroPie twice. One on a Pi3b+ and one on my Pi4. Testing with the old "Hyper Sports" on mame2003, I realize a perfect behavior on the 3b+ but a small delay on the Pi4. So pushing the button and taking effect differences a little bit (made me miss the skeets on skeet-shooting ;-) ). Do you have any idea why this is and - much more important for me - how to solve this problem?

                        Best regards,

                        Rufus
