Concerning the Pi3B(+): AFAIK there is no emulator for Espgaluda 2 (aka ESPRade 3).
The Mame-Ports for the Pis are too old and do not support this game at all and even FB Neo has no support for the newer Cave-Shooters.

Maybe it is possible with the Pi4, i dont have one and therefore i dont know if there is support for newer MAME-Ports.

Thanks. I have indeed a PI4 image that emulates it (too slow) but I haven't checked with which emu.

iirc, odroid n2 barely handle it with mame2016 + emulated cpu underclocking, but the pi4 has way lower specs (older cpu model + lower freq, it might be possible to catch up with heavy OC+cooling though).

Actually, I was hoping to have it running smoothly on a pi3B+ with my retropie CRT image that is usually much much smoother that regular ones with hdmi, as I run all games in native low res, without any shader, bezel etc. But indeed, if mame 2016 is required, I'll wait....

I play CAVE shooters a lot. Espgaluda 2 is too much for the stock 3B+ to handle.

@toto2000 Fat chance. My pi4, overclocked to 1.9Ghz, the game runs at 60fps if there's no explosions on mame2016. Similar results with the other cave shooters that'll only run on 2016.

Ah, on my pi4 (not overclocked), the game has huge slowdowns during explosions, that makes it uncomfortable to play..... Let's wait until we have hardware acceleration in the graphic drivers....

The PI4 already has that, I don't think there's anything to wait. The GPU acceleration performance does not have an impact on this game.

@toto2000 mame has no hardware acceleration, your best bet for now would be to downclock the emulated cpu and overclock your pi4 to highest possible frequency

I thought that even 2D rendering could take advantage of OpenGL / Mesa 3. Fba uses that I think, for accelerating 2D rendering cycles...

It's not about being 2D or 3D, it's about being software or hardware rendered :

                            • software renderer will render everything on a framebuffer then pass this to whatever backend is used for rendering
                            • hardware renderer will render the various elements using directly the gfx apis and let the gpu compose everything, meaning they are only compatible with the gfx apis they were written for

While it's totally possible to render a 2D sprite by directly using a gfx api, it was never done in either MAME or FBNeo.
