I have one controller linked to my raspberry pi 3 a+ via usb encoder. I have an identical controller with another usb encoder. Would a USB splitter such as this be able to make a 2 player arcade machine? Here is a similar joystick.

Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry pi 3a+
Power Supply used: general apple charger with compatible usb charger. 3V output.
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.5.1.
Built From: (Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, Berryboot, or on top of existing OS etc.. - please provide the filename of any image used) Pre Made Retropie SD image from retropie website.
USB Devices connected: 2x USB Encoder attached to USB splitter.
      Controller used: MAME arcade x2
      Error messages received: None
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide)
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable)
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
      How to replicate the problem:

No, the splitter doesn't allow for 2 devices connected to work simultaneously. In the description it says:

        • Splits into two USB 2.0 female
        • Out of two female, one is for data and the other one for charging only
        • One female USB 2.0 is for data and charging
        • One female USB 2.0 is only for charging

You need an USB hub to plug in more than 1 device through a single USB port (like the 3A+ model).

Regarding the same details could you please explain why when I configure my controller the wifi setup does not seem to remember the configuration it inverts the controller directions so to go left I have to press right. Buttons do not work at all even when they are setup? Please help

What USB encoder are you using ? Have you wired the controls (joystick/buttons) correctly ?

Try to test the encoder using jstest - (see here) - to check if the joystick and buttons produce correct results.

Is there a schematic you've followed to wire the joystick and buttons to make sure they're correctly wired ? Or does the encoder has labels for each connections indicating the correct wiring ?
