Hi, i have retropie on old laptop (based on ubuntu) and free time to make sony msx hitbit replica - sort of. And i was wondering: what if sd card could act as real old cartridge, so when i put sd (with rom and xml that defines console) to slot game runs automatically with proper emulator. Anyone made something like this? Thanks.

I think someone made a NFC based cartridge replicas that, when inserted, would start an emulator.

Thanks, that's very similar to what i want to achieve. Great work with this NFC system BTW. But what i want is to load an actual rom. Thank you for answer :)

It was not my project, but another user's project.

Loading a ROM or use a real cartridge ? For loading a ROM (file) from a SD card I guess it's enough to detect when the sdcard is inserted, mount it, check for a ROM file (maybe use a pre-defined folder and/or file name) then run the emulator. Quite similar to using a NFC reader - instead of reading just the name of the file (NFC), you have a whole file you can load (SDCard).

It looks similar to the setup for running ROMS from an USB drive.

Man, i love the concept. I'd like to have his Theme, too.

I want to put ROM on sd card, insert sd card into slot and automatically open this ROM by proper emulator. Looks like there's no solution right now, NFC looks great but that's not what i'm looking for. Thanks.

Of course there isn't one out-of-the-box since it's not a common request or a common usage scenario, but you could devise one based on the scripts that RetroPie uses for running ROMs from an external USB. Experimenting and tinkering is part of the Raspberry Pi experience :).

It's similar, but I don't think it's the right one. You can see the graphic for Favorites is different. (The one in the NFC video has a Donkey Kong Country font for Favorites, whereas the github screenshot shows a Zelda type of graphic for favorites.) I installed your recommended theme, but it appear to be totally broken for me. (This may be due to my 4:3 screen. About to test on widescreen setup.)

The part of the theme that grabbed my attention was the CRT tv image in the game list. My OrangePi has a similar kind of theme and I like it very much.

EDIT - YEah, it's definitely not the same. I got it running properly and can see for sure. The System list is very similar, but the game lists are completely different. Thanks for trying, @mitu
