      I think this is proof that the time of isolation is getting to me.

      I saw a post somewhere, that talked about how reversing the fan on a stock case improved the temperature a little, and I had an old 2" 12v fan laying around.

      Raising the case off the desk, and putting the fan underneath my CanaKit case, balanced on motherboard spacers, dropped the idle temperature from 50.
      The case itself had a small opening for fan exhaust shaped like the Rasbperry Pi logo, which still covered half the fan. Cutting that out with a dremel tool got the temperature down to 46.

      The end result is ugly, and held together with hot glue, zip ties and elastics because I didn't have small enough screws on hand, but 30 minutes of gameplay didn't get above 51C.
