No sound effects in Darius Gaiden for Sega Saturn

Hello,
For some reason none of the sound effects in Darius Gaiden for the Sega Saturn play. The gameplay is (relatively, I don't expect it to be perfect) fine and the music tracks plays without a problem.
This is the only Saturn game I have that has this problem and I've checked that the cue file was correct. Is this a known issue with this game or is their an audio setting I have to adjust?
