SD CARDS what’s the deal!
-
i need to know if my SD is compatible or fake or anything Important because I need help.
I have been at my PC now for nearly 18 hours.
I had a perfect setup on a Samsung 16GB sd and decided to upgrade to a Sandisk 64.
• 1st I couldn’t write the image to the SD.
I admit it took me 2hrs to realised windows has problems writing to 64g sd so downloaded SDformatter & MiniTool• 2nd after a very successful install when trying to upgrade packages the pi crashes with error <kernel panic-not syncing: vfs: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(179,2)>
• 3rd and (Of Course) the best bit ... some SD’s are not compatible!
..........................................
[ My SD Card] I purchased from EBay
SanDisk Ulra 64gb (10) A1
SDSQUAR-O64G-GN6MA
..........................................
Is it compatible?
Elinux.org site bellow doesn't have my card listed!
(Only closest companion)SanDisk SDHC 32 10 Ultra (UHS-I A1) SDSQUAR-032G-GN6MA
✅ Compatible -
@lexieye I bought the card off EBay and it’s from China. So in the current Crisis I suggest NOT buying anything from China as they are Obviously Struggling with the work-load and are pushing counterfeit goods to try and keep there lack of workers and production to there target Audience. I have lost all my data and will start a fresh build with an Argos store bought SD

There are loads of fake SD cards out there. It sounds like the one you got had a bogus capacity listed on it.

I ran into this when I first started as well. I finally just got so fed up I went to Walmart and bought one off the peg. That way, if it failed, I could bring it back. I had no issues. When it comes to SD cards and flash drives I have learned it's just not worth saving the extra $5 buying online as most "deals" end up being fake.
I have had zero problems from that point going forward buying from local retail. Best way to go.
*EDIT: I just noticed you said :
@lexieye said in SD CARDS what’s the deal!:

Sorry but I disagree. China has been pushing fake items for YEARS before the current crisis. Sometimes it doesn't matter but usually the item turns out to be junk, doesn't last as long or - like in this case - pure fake. This is not a new thing.
