kodi - Retropie 4.6 - Raspberry Pi 4B
-
Hi All. Managed to setup Retropie today on the Pi 4, everything works really well, even the Plus/4 emulation, and a couple of games I have speed issues with on the Pi3 play fine now.
Kodi however, I've twice installed from Binary and restarted but no 'Ports' option appears in EmulationStation so I can't launch it...has anyone else had this issue or have a clue how I can fix it?
Cheers all.

Did you edit your
es_systems.cfg
by any chance ? What image did you use to install ? -
@mitu as a matter of fact, yes I did, to add Plus/4 & Vic20 emulation using Vice. I used the newly released Pi4 beta image.
I followed these great instructions here: https://ianwilliamhill.co.uk/c16rp/index.php
It worked perfectly on my 3B+ a year or so back so wasn't expecting an issue from it.
Do you know how I can resolve it? Thanks.

@DarkGlobe Copying the es_systems.cfg and customizing it has a small downside - any new systems installed (in your case, Ports) - will not automatically be added to EmulationStation carousel.
The RetroPie setup script will automatically add the system to
/etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
, but your own configuration is not modified, so you need to do so manually, by copying the newly added entries to your ownes_systems.cfg
.See also https://retropie.org.uk/docs/EmulationStation/#es_systemscfg-edits.

Thank you so much, this has fixed it.
I copied the Ports XML block from the /etc version into my /opt custom version.
Could this issue be fixed by making customisations to the /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg directly rather than creating a copy or would that put the customisations at risk of being overwritten & lost?

The system file (in
/etc
) is maintained by the RetroPie-Setup script, so it might get changed by an update, so it shouldn't be used for custom systems.
