Mortal Kombat 2/3/UMK3 Audio
-
it's a shame there's this issue :( i'll update here and the github issue if there's anything to report. i tried an earlier version of lr-mame2003 but that first version i could compile on my mac (my dev environment) had the issue already. maybe i could port an even earlier version to mac but that's a pain.
basically nothing will happen with this issue unless you can find someone who knows C & audio programming well. i've done all i can :(

I note you said in your earlier post above dankcushions that you could increase the DCS_BUFFER_SIZE to at least delay the onset of the crackling audio.
You said you went from 4096 bytes to 8192 bytes. Have you tried pushing that to 16384 bytes or even higher?
Are you able to tell me how I can change this option in retropie on my Rpi3? Even if you can point me in the direction of the relevant config file, I can locate and edit the setting and do some testing.
Cheers

@darkmenace i replied to your other thread :) https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/7084/mame2003-audio-crackling-mortal-kombat-games/2
-
So still no luck with this one? I thought what will happen when lowering the buffer size?
-
@Melvin.FoX makes problem happen faster
-
@dankcushions but also disappear faster ;) but i don't know what will happen to desync. I read that changing the audio latency to 200 ms solves the problem somehow. Have you tried it?
-
@Melvin.FoX this won't help. it will get worse and worse and get out of sync. i'm not going to fiddle with this any more than i already have. it should be a simple fix not a hack like this. the source code is available if you want to play!
-
@dankcushions I am not programmer so I won't do much with it.
What I did was raising audio latency to 200 ms and it gets totally out of sync (it's too much difference and it won't help with the issue at all). I just have to find other mame version that it works better. With mame2010 it just works choppy and mk3 has some serious slowdowns. Darn :/ -
Glad to see this topic still has life. I am convinced that Mame2003 has this issue inherently coded into it, only to be ironed out over the years. The problem is the later versions of Mame such as 2010-2014 require more power to run these games properly. I am afraid we may just hit a wall until Raspberry Pi 4 comes out. Unless some dedicated work can be done with Mame2003 to fix our beloved Kombat titles.
-
@GreenHawk84 it's not a problem with mame2003 - if you run standalone mame2003 (mame 0.78) in windows you don't get this issue. the issue must be to do with the libretro implementation.
but this topic doesn't have life until someone gets coding :)
-
@dankcushions yes I do remember reading that, my bad, I twisted it on accident. I wonder if the guys over a Libretro have a thread for this?
-
I follow this threat to, MK3 or MK4 isn't running at all..... can play it on the N64 though but Arcade is so much better LOL
-
I'm totally new this but i've added the mk roms and the only one that works is the original mk.....any help on getting mk2-3 to even play at all? i'm using Pi 3 and mame4all.... or am I going about this all wrong?
-
@FreshmanClasspi First off don't use Mame4All. That's best suited to a Pi Zero. What ROMSET are you using?
-
@FreshmanClasspi nvm....i switched over to lm-mame2003 and it worked
-
MK2/UMK3 still have the sound issue. :(
I raised the bounty to get it fixed. -
I vote that we (since I contributed to the donations) give the money to the person who could also get it working on FBAlpha. If we confirm a fully functioning and proper MK series on FBA, that person should get the money. Not sure if anyone agrees, just my suggestion.

looks like someone has started working on this :Di will test it as soon as it's completed and make sure it gets accepted promptly.

I will test toooooo, I hope it works well!
-
this is now merged! if you rebuild lr-mame2003 from source (takes about 30 minutes) you will have it. can anyone test, please? i played mk2 for 10 minutes and got no distortion, but I didn't have a chance to test longer/other games.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
