althought probably not impossible, i'm not sure why you would want to do this.
If you really need to play the original cart, maybe look into something like this:
https://bennvenn.myshopify.com/products/usb-gb-c-cart-dumper-the-joey-jr
SO you can dump the rom and savefile and carry on where you left off.I don't have this device, but by the looks of it, it's plug and play and comes up as a removeable drive, i guess you could mount it in such a way the it is your gb rom folder.
then, maybe, you could have retropi boot directly into the gb emulator and play whatever gb rom path? I don't know.
I dunno, just spitballing.

I would buy that cardtridge reader but it is over $25 and I don't know if it includes shipping I could just go to my local retro game store and buy a game boy color for a little more
I would prefer a cardtridge reader to order for under $20 -
@hackedmacbook111 I enjoy how blatant your trolling has now become.
My recommendation, and it is just my opinion and not backed up by science, is to inject bleach into the cartridge reader to kill the Covid-19. Then eat it.
<Edit> You seem to have deleted the bit in your post claiming the reader would come with Covid-19. You're smarter than you appear....
I hope this helps.

But wouldn't that damage the cardtridge reader
I once tried to feed a raspberry pi 0 w to my dog -
