@CCFox I'm sorry to say, but none of those games have any fan art or official art that thematically fits with the theme. Not finding anything on Artstation, pixiv, or even google.

@hoover900 said in Not so Epic Noir:

@chicuelo thanks man and thank you and @c64-dev for making Epic Noir in the first place to start all of this.

@hoover900 Cracking job there mate! As Nico said, it's great seeing what other people can do with the theme we created.
In fact, when we first started out making the EN theme, one of our first priorities was to make it easy for people to change the poster images etc to their liking.
Now look at this beauty! :)

@nil06 thanks man. The first thing I did was change the PC-Engine background to some Bonk's Adventure art and it sorta went from there. The only think I really had an issue with was getting crisp looking edges on the font. Started with Krita because don't have Photoshop at the moment and for some reason the text tool is meh. In addition Krita doesn't have actions, so it made exporting the images was a pain. Ended up switching over to Affinity Designer and redoing everything. It end being better because I could see everything at once because of how its bulk export system works.

Thanks again for your work on Epic Noir man

@hoover900 Thank your for the reply :)

I'm absolutely not able to do such a mod :D I can barely change a font color in a xml file :)

Keep it up <3, bot you and chiculeo are giving an awesome contribution to the pretty boring and buggy themeing scene :)

@brand dude don't count yourself short so quickly. If you can setup Retropie you can edit a XML file and what not.

Check out the docs on making your own theme. Reading the docs is always the first step.

Also I would recommend a text editor that has syntax highlighting, like VS Code or Sublime Text. The highlighting makes reading the file much easier.

One more thing to check out are the GitHub tutorials. Source control is super helpful is you make a mistake you can just go back to a previous version.

Remember knowing is half the battle.

I only just found the Epic Noir theme, and I like it a lot, but there's a bunch of things I want to change about it.

I found your version and I like it too. I may have to do sort of a mix of the 2 find what works for me.

Edit: Quick note, this is the correct link to the Create Your Own Theme doc.

[Wow, I wrote that how-to guide like 3 or 4 years ago. Glad some people are still getting some use out of it, even though it's probably pretty out of date by now]

I'd really love to use this theme but I can never figure out how to download stuff from github. Is there a zip file somewhere that I can download? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

@gamehedpro You click on the Code button at the top of the repository and you can download the theme as a .zip file:

                        1dfbe886-fba7-4d39-ac8d-feaba21b34fe-image.png

After you extract the archive, you can copy the theme's folder to \\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation\themes (create the themes folder if it doesn't exist) and then you can choose the theme from EmulationStation's menu.
