Best Pac-Man Version?

@Retro Yep it's personal preference. I was never into the game growing up, but I've recently gotten into the newer championship edition games. The first one's on psp. The 2nd one I recently got for free on Steam.

Although personal taste, surely the best version is the original version?
However, I do like the Amiga Deluxe Pac-man, which gives an added spin on the game by collecting power ups and bonuses as well as fruit. Maze is smaller , but sprites much bigger.
Then you have the other spin-off games such as Pac-Land and Pacmania. -
@Impman66 Can Retropie run the original?

If you look in the right place it can yes, cant say anymore on that.

@Impman66 I'm not asking for ROMs, I'm just asking whether Retropie has the technical capability, either though a pre-installed emulator or an optional downloadable emulator, to run an arcade game such as Pac-Man.
-
@Retro Yes, with MAME.
-
@saccublenda Oh aye, I've heard of that. Thought it was for a games console. Thank you!

Sorry about that, but yes lots of "originals" available via MAME Emulation, which is in effect the arcade one.

@Impman66 Aye that's cool. When I first came to play Space Invaders, I went with the Atari 2600 version because I didn't think Retropie did arcade because I know it's such a diverse area of hardware that falls under one name. It's cool that Retropie caters for it. Last time I played Pac-Man was when Google did their doodle about 10 years ago, so it'll be nice to play it again. Thank you for your help! :)

Original Midway Pac-Man on MAME is best, IMO. It's by definition the most "original, authentic" way to play the game.
But if MAME stymies you, or if you're looking for the best version to play on a 480i CRT, I recommend the NES port (either Tengen or Namco, they're functionally identical). It doesn't have accurate colors (what arcade port does with NES's weird palette?), but the arcade action is 100% there.
