Re: Silence and Appliance-ify your RetroPie Installation (i.e. Make it Startup and Shutdown Like a Console) UPDATED FOR RetroPie v4.4.8

Hi folks, this is doing my head in. I've got 2 identical raspberry Pis here running the same image and I've following the information provided in the link above to the letter and yet still I am seeing that one final line of the automatic login screen.

      raspberrypi login: pi (automatic login)

I've made the changes to /etc/systemd/system/autologin@.service, even tried using the shorter option characters to no avail. I revert it back to the original file, no difference. It's like the new options just won't take.

Information about my system is as follows:
Pi Model or other hardware: 3B+
Power Supply used: Official Raspberry Pi
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.6.1
      Built From: retropie-buster-4.6-rpi2_rpi3.img
      USB Devices connected: None
      Controller used: 8BitDo SF30 Pro

Can someone please help me, that little flash of text is making me going insane.

      Thanks,
      Steve

The text appearing is from the login prompt - which should be supresed by the configuration to the autologin service. Try to disable then enable again - from raspi-config - the autologin configuration (auto-login to console).

Autologin doesn't affect the login prompt.

You will need to edit some system /etc config(s) for that. I've not tried it - I don't think it's a good idea personally - you will have to work it out :-)

I've done all the editing required in the linked process listed above but for some reason, this one component isn't working hence asking for support.

@nifmus Were you able to fix it? I just found it.
Changing the line in autologin@.service doesn't change anything with the prompt. (I changed the autologin to username USER and it didn't change)
The system is still looking at the original autologin in the getty folder.
If you modify it there, it will take.
                /etc/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service.d/autologin.conf
Not sure if it's even reading autologin@.service
