PCSX multi-disk PSX games

I’m having a lot of trouble playing multi disk PSX games. both problems freeze my pi ending in power plug pull.
• PROBLEM 1#
I made a PBP file of Heart Of Darkness
I can change disk fine and play disk 2, but when I exit out of Retroarch whole thing crashes and I have to unhealthily pull the plug!

• PROBLEM 2# game doesn’t recognise disk 2.
OddWorld Abe’s Exodus

this had the same effect if I make one PBP and then i tried two separate bin files.
have I correctly made .m3u?<
I made a .m3u file
OddWorld *****.disk1 of disk2.cue
OddWorld *****.disk2 of disk2.cue
I put all three (1.bin / 2.bin/ OddWorld.m3u) in the folder PSX/ROMs
When I load save (please insert disk 2)
{open-tray..load disk 2..close-tray..resume}
it say (invalid disk2)
both are [U] games but only thing I can think of is disk 1 & 2 have different slus endings

I can only find ‘rushed’ ‘Click-Bait’ tutorials only and would really appreciate someone breaking it down for me
