atari5200 doesn't work

Please provide more details of set up and launch a ROM with "verbose logging" via the runcommand menu and provide that log as it will contain more info.
-
@BuZz Thank you for the answer! I'm searching in docs to learn how to deal with runcommand. Come back soon.
-
I tried to start ROM in "verbose mode" with same results. This time there is no
runcommand.log
file in/dev/shm/
. There is no log output in the screen neither.When I start the ROM, a dialog window is shown (with instructions for runcommand an path to log), then a black screen an return to game list.
The default emulator for atari5200 (Ir-atari800) is used in both ways (verbose mode and normal mode). In short, all

How to replicate the problem: Install same RetroPie image from scratch in a similar wardware, put a ROM in roms/atari5200 and start the ROM. -
@aitor The Atari 8-bit emulators (Atari 800, 5200, etc) require all the correct checksum BIOS files to be in place.
That means that this:

will not work. There is additional setup required. Atari 8 bits take more work to get set up than most of the other emus.
Check the docs, the Atari ones are very comprehensive -- I know, because I wrote quite a lot of them. https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Atari-800-and-5200/

I had the same problem, I solved it by setting the video to PAL
atari800_ntscpal = "PAL"

@rkoster Thank you for the help. I tried to follow the guide and stop at this point:
"Then, load a content file. The Atari800 core should boot to the 'Atari Computer - Memo Pad' screen."
What exactly means "content file"? I tried "load content" option in retroarch. Retroarch filesystem navigation is open to find… what?
Another related question. There is a table of BIOS in the refered doc, but there is no link to those BIOS. What is the usual way to get them? I searched internet and I found it, but not sure if they are the right files.
Thank you very much.

Content = game ROM
BIOS - You have to find them yourself. -
@hermit The vast majority of Atari 800 and 5200 games are actually NTSC, not PAL.

@rkoster said in atari5200 doesn't work:

I fully agree, but putting NTSC the various games don't start
I did this test because in the wiki it says: "NTSC filters do not work." -
@hermit NTSC filters is not the same thing as setting the machine itself to be NTSC. NTSC filters is a bunch of settings that let you do finetuned video effects, sort of like the shaders in Retroarch. They work in the standalone atari800 emu, but not in lr-atari800.
I have NTSC working just fine here in lr-atari800 -- in fact, if you see this thread: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/22392/lr-atari800-5200-artifacting-basic-and-other-guidance you will see comparison shots of PAL vs NTSC.
