Pausing while playing the game loading video?

By using the instructions here I now have videos playing before a game loads and it is looking really good.
When the videos are playing, if I press the A button it pauses the video and the game doesn't load. Press it again and it unpauses and the game continues to load.
Any idea how I can disable all key presses while the game loads?
Pi Model or other hardware: pi4b 4gb
Power Supply used: 5.1v 3a
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest):4.6
Built From: (Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, Berryboot, or on top of existing OS etc.. - please provide the filename of any image used) running on raspbian 10 buster
USB Devices connected: Keyboard
ES version: 2.9.1rp
