      Hello,

I am new to the Raspberry Pi and recently got a 3 B+. My focus right now is the older Atari consoles. I found that the default lb-stella2014 was outdated and unable to run current homebrew releases to I changed the default to stella (I'm using the latest 4.6 retropie).

Homebrew games now work but I can't figure out how to map my controller buttons. When I launch one none of the buttons do anything. Worse, previously I could press both right trigger buttons to return to emulation station. That too no longer works so I have to power off the Pi to get out of a game. My controller is a generic PS2-style USB controller.

      Thanks,
      mario64

You will need to attach a keyboard and use Stella's menus to map things. I did a quick search and it looks like:

        Arrow keys to move

        Space bar to fire

        4 for trigger button

        5 for booster button

F2 to reset the emulated Atari 2600

Esc to return to the menu

The controller mapping for exiting to EmulationStation is a Retroarch mapping. Because you are not using a Libretro core, none of the Retroarch functionality will work, mapping included.

Thank you so much. Will give this a go
