No Wireless, No Games!!

Hi all,

I got my Raspberry Pi 4 Model B yesterday and installed Retro Pie. After 4 hours of trying to connect to the wifi with Retro Pie I finally gave up and used a LAN cable to gain my SSID and my IP Address. Once I had done that I added two ROMs to the network and they don't appear on Retro Pie. No matter what I do with this thing nothing works.

I have even tried on a memory stick and that doesn't seem to work, I have tried all the little helps on the internet but still nothing works.

I am from the UK just in case this information is needed.

Please can someone help as I am about to call it a day with it.

Did you restart EmulationStation (or the Pi) after transferring the ROMs ? They won't show up otherwise. Note that each emulated system has its own list of ROM filename extensions, if the files you copied don't match the system's expected file extension, the ROMs will not show up either.

You can look in the Docs and check the accepted extensions for each system, comparing to what files you copied to your Pi system.

EDIT: for configuring the Wifi, there's a special section in the Docs with more than one method that you can use.

I have just tried the wifi connections you suggested and they don't work. Though I make the .txt file when I go into the part to impport on the Pi it says it can not be found.

I haven't tried the ROMs thing yet. I am getting extremely frustrated with this currently! This will be my second day at trying to get this to work, I thought this was supposed to be easy haha

That's not enough if you haven't set the WiFi country.

First try to follow all these steps (all of them from the top!):

Then to transfer roms over the network follow these steps:

Make sure you place the roms in the right folders! Read the documentation. For example for the SNES:
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Super-Nintendo-Entertainment-System/#roms

If you cant find the network share, perhaps try this way of accessing your pi through SFTP.

I've been unable to connect to the network share on my pi. For me it turned out I'm having a problem that windows 10 had certain group policies disabled that blocked the share. The fix was explained here. Though, I didnt like the idea of leaving insecure policies open, so I decided to transfer roms with SFTP. Or alternatively, using an old windows 7 laptop, which could access the share.
