      Hi,
When idle, I have noticed that the CPU load is relatively high on a PI4 with the latest version 4.6.1 : the "top" command indicates an EmulationStation %CPU of about 18.0 (load average close to 1.0) where it was close to 0.3 with a PI3 on 4.5.12 (load average : 0.0).
EmulationStation is idle, the install is fresh, updates are done (no ROM installed, no customisation etc) and I would like to know if this is the same for you.

I'm not saying EmulationStation is not working correctly, I just want to know if you think this is the correct behavior or not...maybe it can be optimized...

      Thanks,

I have EmulationStation idling at 0.3-0.5 % CPU with 0 load, without any screensaver set and with power saving enabled (which I think it's the default).

@mitu ES basically spends time and cpu resource just to render the screen, this caused upto 60% cpu usage on pi zero till i wrote the power saver functionality in. Can you share which mode are you using for the power saver ?

Last I checked Instant was the best performing due to no animations, closely followed by Enhanced (animations but bad with video previews). And Default was what ES used before PowerSaver.

@Hex @mitu For me, the power saving mode was disabled by default on 4.6.1 on a Pi4, I turned it on to Enhanced and the CPU usage dropped instantly to 0.3 as before. Maybe it needs to be reactivated by default?
            Thanks for the explanation!
