Please add more info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

If you have accidentally enabled the Kid or Kiosk UI modes in EmulationStation, you need to enter a button combination (Konami code) to exit - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Child-friendly-EmulationStation/#switching-modes.
If that doesn't work, then you can edit the configuration file and either replace the code with a simpler one or change the UI mode directly.

@alucardvania Have you tried the code with a USB Keyboard rather than a Joypad (I think this will only work if you've previously configured the keyboard through "Configure Input" though).

That works for me, I have to do the Konami code via keyboard, doesn't work with my joypad. If that isn't an option, then changing the config as Mitu said will work for sure.

@alucardvania I don't believe there is a default for the keyboard - give it a mash to check!

Really though, I think you are going to have to go the config route. I presume you have a PC?

@AdamBeGood as far as he is not able to give some Information about his setup as mitu requested he might also not be able to configure a keyboard.
I guess he wants a plug and play system and uses a prebuilt image without carying about how things are working.
I recommend to buy a Nintendo or Playstation.
