Ok, I am all setup to boot from the SDD drive, and it works beautifully. But how can I use an image without losing the boot from SSD?

The current Retropie images do not support this on the PI4. If you want to be able to run Retropie from a USB device on the PI4, you need to install Raspbian and install RP on top of it. I just did this not more than 10 minutes ago.

We don't support 3rd party images.
If you already have USB booting working, then use the manual installation method to install RetroPie over your Raspbian system - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/.

@johnodon Thanks for the info. How do I install the image without overwriting the system files?
