Hi not sure if anyone has faced this issue has irs pretty new, I have followed the instructions to boot any image from an external drive without using a sd card.. This works fine apart from one issue and that's the controller.. After i have mapped my joypad all is fine but have to go into settings to activate the Bluetooth once I return I lose my joypad and its the same if I turn the pi off once i boot it up I have to remap the buttons every time.

This has happened on 2 images
I have a 128gb image on sd card working fine but I don't see the point of putting that on the external hard drive has I can't extend it has its not an sd card.

Please add more info about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. Note that we don't support 3rd party images.

Bluetooth is enabled by default on the RetroPie image, there's no need for an additional step to activate it. Which instructions have you followed for USB boot ?

@mitu oh sorry didn't realise but still a pain

This is the one I followed and in general it works... If you don't mind not going into any settings or remapping the controller every time you turn it on.
