RPi4 with 720x720px display controlled via DPI interface
-
Hello, Everyone.
I would like to ask, if anyone has experience using Pimeroni's HyperPixel 4.0 Square display (720x720 resolution) with RetroPie? I would love to use it in my portable setup based on RPi4 (RPi3B+ at the moment, as I'm prototyping). I don't see why emulator cores should have a problem with the unusual resolution (I will be using integer scaling), but I have some concerns regarding RetroArch front-end and the system itself. Maybe someone could inform me, how such custom resolution affects the performance? Or maybe I wrongly presume that such a display will work with RetroPie? If there's a high risk of screen tearing, I would like to know as well.
Thanks!Pi model: 3B+/4
Power Supply used: 5VDC 3A+
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: ATmega32U4 for power management/keyboard emulation
Controller used: as mentioned

@shylock since more or less every videogame supported by retropie is in 4:3, you're always going to get borders on the top and bottom (rather than the left and right that you would get with a 16:9 display. integer scaling won't make a difference.
with vertical MAME games it would be a nice fit, though: smaller borders on left and right than (un-rotated) 4:3 or 16:9 screens.
you'd also probably need to get a custom emulationstation theme done, unless someone has already done a square one, otherwise it's going to a look a little funky it think.
no idea about the performance...
