I was surprised to find out that there are several alternatives to RetroPie. None of them support as many systems or emulate as well. The only thing I found was that some of them support windows, and one supports 3DS. Otherwise it seems that RetroPie is truly the best! https://alternativeto.net/software/retropie/

I've tried Recalbox and Batocera, and honestly RetroPie takes the cake every time. Plus it has the most active and helpful community in my experience.

          Batocera/recalbox: plug n play.
          Retropie: Advanced users.

@wmarcio Yeah. That said, there are a lot more options available in the ES menu than in RetroPie. I take it these aren't something that can easily be enabled?

@sad_muso ES is part of Retropie, so I don't quite understand your distinction of their options.

edit: Never mind, I misunderstood you, and realized it when @BuZz answered you after me. 🙃

That said, what options does ES have in other retro gaming distributions?

@sad_muso they have a different ES codebase. But it's also a design choice. I don't want to add more options which are technically unrelated to the front-end to Emulationstation.

Each user has their own requirements. I've tried alternatives, but only RetroPie has met 100% of my needs.

For me, the great community, the quick troubleshooting, the well-written wiki, the ability to configure everything, based on Debian ... make it the best choice.
