My friend and I have been able to connect via Netplay with forwarded port on router. There are anonymous folks jumping onto this connection. I would really like to avoid this. Is there some native support in Retroarch, maybe password protected netplay connections?

An alternative I am thinking of is a VPN server. Has anyone gone down this route?

      Thanks for your feedback!

@retroplayer18 I'm using the built-in VPN server of my Fritz!Box router, but not for gaming. So while I can recommend this vendor overall, I can't say how much lag will be added by the encryption.

Check your port forwarding settings on your router. You maybe able to restrict the port forward to specific external IP address(es) or MAC address(es). If so you can whitelist your friends IP/Mac address.
