I have installed a fresh image of retropie and put roms on it but when i try to configure p2 in the rgui menu and save it it just says error saving autoconf file. I have had this error for 6 months now and I would appreciate any help you can give.

I am using at twin USB gamepad (encoder) so I only need 1 encoder for p1 and p2 buttons and joysticks 🕹.

I am running official retropie 4.4 on the rasberry pi 3b+
Also on a SanDisk 128gb micro sd card

I have also expanded the filesystem

Not sure why you're using an old image instead of a recent one (4.5 should have been available 6 months ago), but you don't need to configure the 2nd player if you already have configured P1 - their configuration should be identical if you're using just 1 encoder. If you configured P1 through EmulationStation, the auto-configuration files should be already present.
