Roms from USB drive not loading in Emulationstation after Restart (SOLVED)
-
Hello everyone,
I did a new setup of my Retropie system on a Pi 4. This time I used this guide /https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive/) to have my roms on an external USB drive. Using the automatic mount option everything went pretty smoothly and all folders were copied and my home folder links to the RetroPie folder on the drive.
Now I have the problem that none of the roms copied there show up in Emulationstation, when I start or restart the Pi. When I restart just the Emulationstation they load perfectly fine.
I assume the problem is, that Emulationstation is loaded before the drive is mounted! Though I actually have no idea how to solve that... might anyone have some ideas?
Thanks very much in advance!
EDIT: SOLVED!

Thank you. I bookmarked that post since I will be getting a NESPi case and another Pi 4 eventually.
Right now my Pi 4 is living in a Picade! :)

You're welcome :)
I stumbled upon that shortly after I gave up on googling and posting this.If you are getting the new NESPi 4 case, be aware that (at least with connected SSD) 2.4 Ghz WiFi will be unusable! They put a warning in the manual but of course not on the box...
Apparently the SATA to USB 3 connector causes a lot of interference in that frequency range.
My bluetooth controllers luckily still work fine so far, but haven't tested thoroughly yet. No connection to 2.4 Ghz WiFi possible, but 5 Ghz works fine. -
Had the same issue, and the same solution worked for me too (I also stumbled upon it through googling). I've also seen speculation that the model of SSD may play a role in who gets this issue and who doesn't. (I have a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD) I can't vouch for if that's true or not (and this drive seems otherwise great and working fine), but I guess something for people to be generally aware of (i.e. before you buy an SSD google around for possible compatibility issues).

There's a topic in the Raspberry Pi forums for USB SSDs - https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=245931 - pinned at the top of the troubleshooting section.
