lr-vice fire button

Hello,
I have my retropie set up for playing my childhood game's. I love to play them with original controllers. Now I made a c64 to usb converter so I can plug in my (35 year) old competition pro joystick. It plays like a charm, but the only problem is, I can't get my configuration set up so the "A" button fire button works as the fire button in lr-vice. There I can only choose "B" or "Y" as fire button. But that way I can't use the fire button to start a game in Retropie. Is there any way to make this work? -
Use the Core input remapping in RetroArch and switch the buttons for the
lr-vicecore. -
Simple and fast solution, I'm ashamed I didn't find this myself, but I'm new to retropie and there is so much to learn. There are so many menu's to explore and the first days I managed to render my system useless (more than ones) by changing wrong setting so I ended up starting from scratch. I think this is part of the fun, back in the old days (I got my first vic 20 in 1982) you had to figure things out the hard way too, thank God one can sometimes rely on the internet community for help.
