Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 4GB
Power Supply used: Raspberry PI 4 Model B power supply
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.6.7
      Built From: PINN
USB Devices connected: XBox Controller Receiver
      Controller used: X360 Controller
      Error messages received:

Could not successfully build RetroArch - frontend to the libretro emulator cores - required by all lr- emulators (/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/retroarch/retroarch not found)

      Verbose log (if relevant): https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/9cppJBq7yQ/
      Guide used: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first (sorry, I'm a clown)

      Hi there,
by updating (and later reinstalling) RetroArch via Retropie-Setup, I got this error message :
Could not successfully build RetroArch - frontend to the libretro emulator cores - required by all lr- emulators (/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/tmp/build/retroarch/retroarch not found).

Anything else was able to update after the hack from Aug 16th(?)
But Retroarch installation always brings up this message.

I originally installed everything via PINN (also other systems like Kodi, Raspbian etc.) - and it worked fine. After some performance issues with N64 (no emulator run's MarioKart as well as it was on my old Pi3) i decided to update. I even removed and reinstalled all core packages (via Retropie-Setup) but no difference.
This led to this point, that I remove RetroArch - and now I'm not able to reinstall it.
Can anybody help? I have a lot of settings which I don't want to loose. I would be nice when it's possible to reinstall RetroArch via Retropie-Setup.
Thanks a lot in advance (can I say so - I'm not a native speaker)

We don't usually support this installtion method - via PINN. Does PINN have an option to install RetroPie ? Or did you install Raspbian and then manually installed RetroPie ?
What's the content of the config.txt on your boot partition ?

I have no idea whether PINN itself has an option for installing.
I used this page to get a multiboot system:
          https://pinn.mjh.nz/

The content of my config.txt is:
          https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/Z64c7s7PfZ/

The configuration file disables the fkms overlay needed for the Pi4's GPU drivers.

            [pi4]
            # Enable DRM VC4 V3D driver on top of the dispmanx display stack
            #dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d
            max_framebuffers=2

You need to enable the overlay back for RetroPie to function. I don't understand how/if RetroPie worked with the overlay commented out.

EDIT: I would also increase the gpu_mem to 256 (useful for Kodi).

Okay, thanks - it could be possible, that I did a setting in RPi setup script by mistake. I played around with that - and maybe did not put it back later. This is a real good advice for my performance issue - thanks

gpu_mem will be fixed, too. Thanks

Edit: Oh holy man! This was the point. I thought it's only a booster for my slow graphics - but it fixed the installation issue! After that modification, I also got the possibility to install RetroArch by binaries (which was not shown before). Now the installation works. Thanks a lot.
