      I used to find the ability to enable fps under settings-> video but that option isn't there anymore

      [Linux 5.10.103-v7+ armv7l GNU/Linux
      Retropie 4.8
      Raspberry Pi 3B+]

        I think it's been moved - in version 1.9.0 - somewhere under Settings -> User Interface -> Appearance ? I usually just add fps_show = true in the global retroarch.cfg file to have it present.

          I found a hotkey bind for it actually thanks for both tips also!
