Can't save state, I can only load state
-
hi there,
today I was playing some games, doing a lot of save state and load state. But suddenly something happened, now I can't save state anymore, once I press hotkey + R, the save state notification appear saying "savng state", keeping this notifiction forever and never saving the state. I did an experiment for 5 minutes, and nothing, the "saving state" notification remain on 0%.
To the other side the load state works well.I reinstalled linux again, reinstalled retropie from scratch, but nothing. Just can't save state
-
@Tackskull I was having a similar problem and deleted the .state file in question and it ended up working again. Not sure if that will work for you or not but with the information given that's all I got for you.
Is it for all games or just one game in particular? Is it for all emulators or just one?
EDIT: unfortunately I don't remember if I could load the state file in question.

It happen with all the emulators and every game

Get a verbose log for the emulator - as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/#launch-with-verbose-logging - and post it on pastebin.com to take a look.
Also, add some details about your installation, as described in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

I don't see any attempt to save state in your log, but there's another error:
... [INFO] Saving RAM type #0 to "/home/tackskull/RetroPie/roms/snes/1 Rom hacks da giocare/Luigi's Misadventures 2 - Leviathan's Mania.srm". [ERROR] Failed to save SRAM. [WARN] Attempting to recover ... ...
which might indicate a permission issue.
Does your user have write permission to the ROM's folder ?
-
I don't know, how do I check it?
-
Open the
/home/tackskull/RetroPie/roms/snes/1 Rom hacks da giocare/
folder astackskull
user and see if you can create a file there. -
I navigated with the file manager to my rom snes rom folder and I am able to create new folder and documents.... soo I supposeI have write permission on the folder
-
Can you should a screenshot with the permissions on the folder where the ROM is located ?

@Tackskull said in Can't save state, I can only load state:
AMD® A10-9620p radeon r5, 10 compute cores 4c+6g × 4
If I try to change Tackskull access files from "access files" to "create files and delete", the system get me back to "files acce", it seems I can't change Tackskull's permision to "create files and delete"
Edit: just for let you know I am running Ubuntu 20.1
-
I see you're running the ROM from an external disc, did you mount this manually or using the automated method ?
