How do I upload a save file?
-
The file says SAVE file. It's not for SNES but for N64. It's also seperate on my laptop not on retropie but I want to import it to retropie.
-
Could you use a Retroarch save state as a transfer workaround?
You could
transfer the emulator save state
and save in the new location instead of transferring a save file (which may be saved in the ROM itself). -
It's not in a rom. I download the SAVE file then upload it back to that emulator to continue my progress. Is there a way to merge it to a rom or convert it to a .srm file?
-
Wait, where do I transfer the SAVE file? Do I move it somewhere in retropie and if this is what I do, how do I do it?

@mitu said in How do I upload a save file?:
the save file (.srm) for the game should be in the ROMs folder
The answer was given in the 1st reply.
how do I do it?
Similarly how you transferred your ROMs - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Transferring-Roms/
-
But the SAVE file is not a rom but a gamestate. Is there a website where I can convert it to a .srm file? Or is a SAVE file a .srm file?

ROMS are -files-
SAVE files are -FILES- (srm, mem, etc.)You transfer FILES the same way, no matter its purpose.

Oh. Thank you so much for clearing that up. So I the SAVE file is a rom? Then I just upload it in the roms section because it is a rom. But everytime wont it start at that point where it was saved?
-
The game/rom is a file. The savestate is a file.
You can transfer the savestate FILE just as you would any other FILE (e.g. rom, screenshot, config).
-
But where do I transfer it too?

If you're using RetroPie, the save file (
.srm
) for the game should be in the ROMs folder. If you're using something else, then this is the wrong forum to ask. From the original ROMs folder to the desired ROMs folder.
-
So it's in the roms folder. So I put the SAVE file in the roms folder and just treat it like a rom?
-
@omission229 "Yes"? Just put the savestate file in the ROMs folder "next to the ROM file". Don't really treat it as anything. It's just another file. The emulator should see it as a savestate and not another game.

oohhhhhhhh. Thank you so much for all your help. Also will this work on a raspberry pi 4?
