@Folly The neo kobe set only has floppies. For hard disk images you guys will have to look elsewhere.
I don't believe there are many sources for pc98 rlms @AdamBeGood, so I don't think your roms are bad.
That's right, it's what's under options i need to look at. I feel like we might be missing something simple. -

@Folly It's not in the Neo Kobe set if that's what you're unpacking.
Thanks
It can be searched for without too much bother though, I have a version (which probably works, just not for me - yet).

@Folly The Aleste games are awesome. And Zanac, by the same dev, on the MSX1.
I've given this a go, fun.

@AdamBeGood have you tried switching 'Use last HDD mount ' to ON? I'm looking over the rest of your settings.
Edit : It's the only real difference i can see, and I can't seem to reproduce your issue by turning it off.
Further edit : What happens if you try to mount the hdi files manually with your mouse and keyboard?

Puyo Puyo (have to switch disks)
I did a test with this game, and an .m3u file.
It works also for PC-98.Puyo Puyo (Game disk).hdm Puyo Puyo (Demo disk).hdm
Well , this can be the problem with my creation line.
My commandline would have made it like this.
(because D comes before G, sorted)
Puyo Puyo (Demo disk).hdm
Puyo Puyo (Game disk).hdm
Will have to find a solution for that.
(But I think most dumpers have understood that problem, and tried to make good sorted files though) -
@Folly That's excellent news!
Why include the demo disc in the music however? -

Why include the demo disc in the music however? It seems that it want's files from the Demo disk. Then you have to swap, again and again.

I'm just at the barbers getting a pre-lockdown trim so I'll have a look afterwards. I presume you can run .hdi from NeoKobe without problems? That is the majority of my testing.
@Folly Good news on the PC98.m3u, and most files are in an order that would work with your system. Puyo is weird.

Makes me wonder if CD and HD images can also be added together with FD images. All together in 1 file.

@AdamBeGood Neo Kobe does not have any .hdi files, only .fdd.

Where did I get those from then? Sorry to get confused. It has got .hdms also, doesn't it? I think that is where Puyo was from, and I thought my Night Slave .hdi also, but I am maybe wrong.
Edit: Yep, Night Slave is HDI. Can you try that one, @Folly ?

Then it's a different Neo .... . I have also some hdi's

@Folly Maybe I'm the one who's confused. It doesn't help that I can't currently see my 2000+ fdds in ES.

I think it's just too many.
Had that problem with C64.
You can make for example directory's :
A
B
etc..Place all the A games in the dir A. Etc.
Think this will work. -

Have you had .hdis working on PC98, @Folly ?

Yume no Sei.hdi (13cm) works.

Interesting, I'll try it.

@AdamBeGood Did you have any luck with the suggestions I've made?

Okay, results are the same if I mount using the emulator interface. With .hdi, I get the How Many Files? question. On some disk files I'm okay, but on Night Slave (Disk A) I get "no system files".
I still think it might be BIOS. @Folly can run Yume no Sei, and I am using the same ROM as him. I can't see that there would be much difference between our systems aside from BIOS.
I tried the HDD Mount option also. Shame that there are the rules around BIOS sharing, although I do understand why. Would be good to rule it out though.
Edit: and thank you both for your help on this so far.
