      I recently installed RetroPie again on my Pi3B+ with a fresh install. Started at v4.6.9 but now updated to v.4.7.1
      When loading roms from within EmulationStation it takes 5-6 seconds for NES, SNES, MegaDrive etc and even 8-9 seconds for Neo Geo.
      Is this normal? I thought in the past it took only a few seconds, 2-3 seconds tops.

      I have disabled the run-command launch menu and I do not have any launch art(work).

      Any ideas?

            @panja I guess you have X-input activated for your pads. Try to get to D-input mode.

              @cyperghost
              I've edited /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/'HuiJia USB GamePad.cfg' and changed udev to sdl2.

              Also I've changed input (udev to sdl2) in the emulators own config, so for NES /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch.cfg but without luck.

                @panja No, it's the mode how the pad communicates with the system. It has nothing to do with the sdl or udev.

                Usually you can pair your PAD to Android Mode, iOS mode or Windows mode. The Windows mode can be X-input or D-input.

                So you've to read your pads manual how to do this. It's an old "bug" but it affects the things you descripe.

                  I can’t set anything with this controller unfortunately. It’s a SNES to USB dongle.
                  So I’m using the dongle with an original SNES controller.

                    I think @cyperghost may be referring to this issue which affects certain XInput controllers, connected via Bluetooth. It looks like it's not a similar situation as yours.

                    Can you run

                    cat /proc/bus/input/devices

                    and post the output ? This would help identify the controller/adapter better.
