So with the 4.7.1 update, my 4k tv was using retropie as normal (no issues with 4.6) but Retropie was running super slow, And I had noticed some of the information boot text was super small.

Essentially Retropie was using 4k resolution by default on 4.7.1 and as such, was sluggish in all aspects. I changed the settings in config.txt to use hdmi groups, so it's solved, but did want to mention it.

That happened also in 4.6 and it's not specific to RetroPie.

Since the Pi4 supports 4k, by default it will use the video mode advertised as 'preferred' by the TV. If that's 4k, then this is what it will use. Previous models didn't have this issue, since they didn't support 4k. You can check with tvservice -m CEA what video modes your TV supports and what is the preferred mode.
