c64 problem please help

Hello all,
Im new to the whole raspberry pi unit and using Retropie. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I can't get the c64 games to run.
When I installed retro pie there was not a folder in the roms dir listed as c64. I made a new folder called c64 and placed the .tap files in there but when I run emulation station it does not show c64 (gameboy, nes, zx, master system) are all working OK.
I have checked out https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Commodore-64 which does not give any install details.
I have also followed the information here https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=69420 and have managed to install vice and run games manually from vice.
Is there a way to get emulation station to display the games?
Can anyone give me a step by step guide to follow?

not to worry i installed retropie incorrectly all sorted now :)
