Arcade ROMS question
-
Hi I installed RetroPie on my RaspberryPi and I am able to get roms working for Nintendo and PSX but not MAME. After researching, it seems I need to match the right rom with the right MAME emulator. How do I know what version of the rom is with which emulator? Thanks.

If it starts, you got the right one. If not, you don’t. You need to look for the proper rom sets and not grab random roms in hopes you’ll just get the right one.

Yes, or use a tool like CLRMAMEPRO to rebuild your romset.

Thanks all who replied. I am new to this and am not too technical. So some of the literature have been a little technical for me. I am trying to figure out how to tell the proper rom sets. Appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction.

If you're looking to go "ROM by ROM" (or if you downloaded a random ROM file) you can use the runcommand menu (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/) to try different arcade emulators that you have installed. (e.g. MAME2003, FBNeo, AdvMAME)

@iandaemon that’s how I started, but your luck may vary. I found that most Konami beat em ups (tmnt, simpsons,, X-men) were not changed over the years and most neogeo games have not been changed in years. A lot of my old 2010 roms (actually from 2010)set worked on those particular roms worked with FBneo. And some even worked in mame 2003.
