Hello,
Atari VCS with RtroePie installed in Ubuntu getting failed to find mixer elements error on every item in the Retropie settings menu. Typically you can set the audio to HDMI, but I cannot get to that setting all is the error.

Please add some info about your setup - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
Have you tried setting the Audio Device to one of the other options - besides HDMI ?

Are you talking a out the new Atari VCS (that is only out to certain supporters for beta testing) or an old moded 2600 you bought with Retropie installed?
-
@jamrom2 yes the new Atari VCS I installed Ubuntu then followed the steps to install retropie. I just unistallled then reinstalled retropie and everything is working now. The only issues is when I exit emulationstation all I get is a purple screen, I have to log out then in to Ubuntu to get the os working. I also can't get my custom es_systems file to work.
-
@mitu sorry for not providing the typical information. Its the new Atari VCS so I was really not sure what to put
-
@gizmobjb yeah, that might be a problem. What is it running? What's the OS on the VCS? Are you allowed to talk about it or is it NDA?
So you break out of the VCS build and into ES? How? Command prompt?
I read some people talking about this on AtariAge, but no one ever posted that they actually tried it. Just a guess that's it might not be compatible the way you are trying to do it. But better minds here will know.
Off topic....how do you like the VCS? I'm a huge Intellivision fan and one of the Founding buyers for the Amico. I was thinking of buying the VCS but holding back till I hear something good about it. I hear it's got potential, but kind of a fail out of the box. It looks great from what I've seen, and I really like the retro controllers
-
@jamrom2 great potential for sure, I would not call it a fail as the backers got exactly what we were told we were getting. The have a backers discord and Atari is very active and pushes frequent updates based on our feedback. So far I really like it.
They set it up so you can install other OS, basically windows and ubuntu. Installing ubuntu is just like any other install and is separate from the Atari OS. I followed the steps on the Retropie website for instaling in ubuntu and it works great so far.
Besides my custom es_system file not working, when I add it the only system shown is one is sg-1000. I can live with that issue as the custom file is set up to order the systems by maker and old to new. But every time I exit emulationstation I get a blank purple screen and have to logout of ubuntu and back in, not the end if the world though.
To boot to Ubuntu you access the boot menu at startup by pressing the ESC button on a keyboard. From there you can boot right to Ubuntu or windows if you have that installed. The VCS then by passes the Atari OS, which in linux based, and boots to other OS that you installed.

If the file is incorrect, EmulationStation might not load it. There's a log file in
$HOME/.emulationstation/es_log.txt
that might help diagnose this. But every time I exit emulationstation I get a blank purple screen and have to logout of ubuntu and back in, not the end if the world though.
That might be the (Gnome) terminal from where EmulationStation is started. Have you tried typing
exit
or pressingCtrl+C Ctrl+D
at that point ?
