Unable to overclock my RPi Zero W in my GPi Case

I recently bought the Retroflag GPi Case together with a RPi Zero W.
Works overall fine, but the performance could be better. GBA ist pretty unplayable and in SNES I get weird sounds in Super Mario World 1 if I Spin Jump.
So I wanted to overclock my Pi. I follow the instructions by ETA Prime in his overclocking video () and set the arm_freq to 1050. My over_voltage=2.
After doing that I tried my games but noticed no difference. Still heavy sound issues and hickups in GBA Games.
I used the command he shows in his video to check the max frequency (cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq) and it shows "1100000".
That would mean that the arm_freq is clocked to 1100 even if I configured something different.
But the performance is still low. Is there anything I can do about this to really overclock it? Should I increase the over_voltage?
I installed the Pi Zero from scratch with the 4.7.1 image from this site.

@juicebag85 I'm not sure if it's the same for the Pi Zero but on Pi 4 I only started noticing differences in performance when I overclocked my GPU. Maybe you could look into that?
If I'm not mistaked, the Pi Zero W is already clocked at 1Ghz, so your overclock will not considerably improve the system's performance.
For GBA, use
gpspas emulators, for SNES, use
pisnesas emulator - this should get perform better on the Pi Zero W.
