Pi Model or other hardware: Pi 4
      Power Supply used: Official
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.7
Built From: Pi OS Software Download
USB Devices connected: Wireless KB & Mouse
      Controller used: MadCatz Wired 360

I've seen other similar issues like this pop up and have tried several suggestions but non are exactly as I'm having. Running RetroPie on Raspberry Pi OS (ex-Raspbian). I boot from a desktop shortcut that simply runs the emulationstation command in prompt. Everything works fine except that I can't access any of the configuration options. Attempting them will flash my desktop screen for a moment and then go back to the configuration menu. I can boot retropie_setup.sh from prompt and it seems fine but I was hoping to be able to access everything from gui. Any thoughts?

@beefcakedmighty Running from the desktop is not supported as outlined in the docs.

"The RetroPie SD image is built on top of Raspbian lite (Raspbian without the PIXEL desktop environment) RetroPie can also be installed on top of the full Raspbian but you can't run Retropie and PIXEL at the same time, you will need to logout of the PIXEL desktop environment in order to run emulationstation and the emulators RetroPie installs."
