Any speed tweaks for NHL96 in DosBox_SDL2?
-
RPi3b+ (default, not overclocked)
Retropie 7.4
Dosbox_SDL2 (latest version)I have it running and was fairly easy to do so. BUT... unless I run it in Lo-res version, it's a slide-show. I run it in Hi-Res, but just about everything it turned off, which kinda ruins the game.
In my config file I made specific to NHL 96, I set these values:
machine=vesa_nolfb - just figured it might help, but no noticeable effect
core=dynamic
cputype=auto
cycles=maxAny other tweaks I can do to get a little more speed out of the game settings in DosBox... or is this pretty much what I should expect. Such a great game to have running, if you like Hockey, but it's pretty much unplayable.
Thanks!

@jamrom2 You could try changing the cycles from max to 100000. I feel setting a high cycles gives better results than the max setting.

@steams71 I messed around with a few different cycles, it somewhat helps...but it just seems this game is on the cusp of the Pi's performance envelope. I found around 16,000 - 18,000 is the best it can do and not have audio issues.
I turned off all the fun caveats of the game and just run it as a clean ice, bare bones game.
I'm not thrilled...but I'm very happy to have it running and playable on my build.
Thanks for the help!
