Add ROMs to SD card?
-
So i just wanted to know if it is possible for me to add my game ROM's directly to the SD card that has Retro pie on it, because i kinda don't have a USB stick to put the ROM's on.
-
@the-doctor Yes, that's the "default" use case.
If you don't have a USB "thumb drive" then you can download them directly over WiFi (from the web or from a local network computer.)

Press start > Quit > Quit Emulationstation.
Type "startx" in the terminal.Behold the wonderful wallpaper.
Go to Chromium, and open your preferred ROM site.
Download your ROMs.
Unzip them if necessary, and rename them to something like: Super Mario.nes
Transfer the file to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms and then your preferred system. (NES in our case.)
Go to your terminal and type "emulationstation."
Play your game!

@iceches1 Unzipping and renaming is really bad advice, especially considering the expressed knowledge level. I'm not saying it doesn't have its place, but I know that can easily trip someone up.

I think that the new Batocera images have an exfat partition for ROMs that can be read and written in Windows or Mac. I thought that was a cute feature that RetroPie should copy :)
-
@busywait The shared folder is genius. I wonder how difficult that would be to setup in Retropie.

@iandaemon oh no, I actually understand a bit more than some people do with this stuff, i understand how to unzip and rename the stuff, the only problem is that I am using raspberry pi 2 and don't have Ethernet, but no worries, i went out and finally got a 16 gig USB flash drive, so everything is working almost perfectly, there are a few bumps and there, but the only real problem now is that when i download a Neo Geo ROM and unzip it, it has at least like, 12 files in it, so I copy paste them all into the Neo Geo section of the flash drive, and then plug it into the pi and restart emulation station after a few minuets to a few hours, and everything else works but the Neo Geo doesn't show up, i will wake a new post related to this and put a link in here, Thanks!
-
@iceches1 so i tried quitting emulation station and typing in startx and it just displayed this
-bash: startx: command not found -
@the-doctor Neogeo roms shouldn't be unzipped and the same applies to arcade roms.
-bash: startx: command not found
That's because you don't have the desktop installed - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#where-did-the-desktop-go.
