ES-sysrestart & es-poweroff video message

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if I could put on a video message for my family when ES shuts down or ES Reboots via the normal ES Menu. I have been trying to put a line in emulationstation.sh in /opt/retropie/supplementary/emulationstation to play the video via omxplayer using sudo before the es-sysrestart and es-poweroff, however the video never launches and doesn't really ever seem like my changes to that file matter. Is there a different place this needs to go or how would I accomplish this?
